I think its time we had ourselves a little tribe intro party--- What finds ye here?? ( to be announced in a pirately voice)...GaR!
Do ya dance? Do ya drum? Do ya dig the idea of CT having a styley dance performance troupe that would step up the night life options here in the greater New Haven and Hartford areas?? ( i know I would!)
I'll go first-- My name is Joy-- I direct Melange Gitan into the mischief we may find, i like dancing, hiking, yoga..... my cat more than my dog (Footy can amuse herself--a great quality). And I do so hope that we can bring you lovelies some fine entertainment and broaden your awareness of dance as art and an enjoyable event!

Wed, June 20, 2007 - 2:45 AMHi Joy!
Dance, yes, Drum, sort of, dig the idea... definitely!
I like dancing, creating pretty costumes, hiking (I didn't know you liked hiking too Joy!), and I'm going to be there at the hartford thingy on the 23rd so I'll get to see the troupe dance!

Re: Hey-- who are these people????
Wed, June 20, 2007 - 8:31 AMArrrrrrgh, abast ye scalawags, 'tis I, the dread pirate Chrisyphus.
I could do the pirate-talk thing all day, matey. But I'll save that for International Talk Like a Pirate Day (September 19.)
I play instruments. Hand drums - dumbek, riq, frame, kanjira, djembe and anything else I can slap, tap or tickle... on the more melodic side, I play bass, cello, kushtar and flutey things.
I don't dance, but I play for dancers, I may have even played for you. I play with New England PURE, I'm part of Nada Dum Ka with Sugati, an ever-evolving tribal-fusion ensemble of musicians, and I'm often found bouncing from instrument to instrument wherever musicians and dancers are gathered. I host the Gathering of the Tribal Moon each month in Hartford ( tribes.tribe.net/gathering...inhartford ) at the Charter Oak Cultural Center, which is also where I work. Charter Oak has recently been hailed as Hartford's epicenter of cool. I can live with that.
My kids have become young adepts of the hoop, I'm hoping the move onto unicycles next - 'cuz unicycles are just too cool. And if my daughters are anything, they're cool... and cute.
I do plenty of other sh*t but thinking about it makes me feel a little overwhelmed, and I don't want that right now.
I hope you all can come to Nomadic Summer Spirit at Charter Oak this Saturday, it'll be bangin'
